HUNT-MORGAN BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES BUILDING
University of Kentucky

Lexington, Kentucky

Omni Architects designed the original Hunt-Morgan Research Building for the Department of Biology in 1973. In its original configuration, it contained teaching laboratories, a lecture auditorium, administrative and faculty offices, and service and support spaces.
Omni designed a renovation of the building in 2008, which included the conversion of the basement research laboratories and animal care spaces to new teaching labs arranged in a “class lab” configuration to support current pedagogies for biology instruction. In addition to the four new class labs, the renovation included new prep labs, a radiation instruction lab, and additional support spaces.
Second floor renovations included the conversion of teaching laboratories to new modular research labs for biology faculty. The research lab configuration was coordinated with the building’s structural module so that additional labs could be built using the same configuration, as funding allows and faculty expansion demands.
