Visitor Center opens at NKU

Northern Kentucky University celebrated the completion of its newly renovated University Center—an inviting, reimagined gateway to campus life that strengthens the first impression for students, families, and visitors.

Omni Architects led the transformation of the multi-story atrium, the Otto Budig Theater, and several key public spaces, creating a bold and cohesive interior environment that reflects NKU’s identity and ambition.

At the heart of the renovation is a sculptural, three-story luminaire inspired by NKU’s iconic flame. Suspended within the atrium, the programmable light feature casts a warm glow across the space, serving as both a visual anchor and a symbolic centerpiece. Below, a newly integrated social bench establishes a welcoming gathering point for prospective students during campus tours, orientations, and special events.

Bright yellow phenolic panels, a dynamic transitioning ceiling plane, and soft curving architectural details breathe new life into the interior. These elements introduce movement and energy while reinforcing NKU’s brand through color and form. The result is a bright, modern, and memorable experience that aligns with the university’s forward-looking mission.

Enhancements to the Otto Budig Theater and adjacent classroom extend the branded design language, creating a refreshed setting for performances, lectures, and community events. Together, these improvements elevate the University Center as a vibrant hub of campus activity.

We are proud to have partnered with NKU in shaping this next chapter of the Norse experience.
