NKU Welcome Center receives design award
Omni Architects is proud to announce that the Northern Kentucky University Welcome Center Renovation has received a 2026 Merit Award for Design Excellence from AIA Kentucky. The award was presented during the organization's Annual Convention in Louisville, recognizing the project's thoughtful transformation of an existing campus facility into a welcoming and engaging environment for prospective students, their families, and the broader university community.
Located within NKU's University Center, the renovated Welcome Center creates a memorable first impression that reflects the University's identity, energy, and commitment to student success. The design reimagines the existing space as an inviting introduction to campus life, incorporating contemporary finishes, integrated lighting, intuitive wayfinding, and opportunities for gathering and interaction. Together, these elements establish a welcoming environment that helps prospective students envision themselves as part of the NKU community.
The project reflects Omni's belief that educational facilities play an important role in shaping the student experience. From the first campus visit to the classrooms, laboratories, and gathering spaces where students learn, collaborate, and grow, thoughtfully designed environments can foster a sense of belonging, strengthen institutional identity, and support student recruitment, retention, and success.
For Omni Architects, the recognition also reinforces the firm's longstanding commitment to designing educational environments that advance learning, connect communities, and create opportunities for future generations. Through its work with colleges and universities across the Commonwealth, Omni continues to demonstrate how architecture can contribute to institutional goals while enriching the experiences of the people who use these facilities.
Omni Architects is honored to receive this recognition from AIA Kentucky and extends its appreciation to Northern Kentucky University for its partnership, collaboration, and trust in bringing the Welcome Center transformation to life.
