eastern kentucky university student athlete support facility

Eastern Kentucky University asked Omni Architects to conduct a feasibility study for a new student athletic support facility to combine many of the football program functions into one building. Overlooking the north end-zone of Roy Kidd Stadium, the facility includes players’ and coaches’ locker rooms/showers, team lounge, team meeting room, equipment room, and coaches’ offices. A special design feature, the “Worn Cleat Room” is a game viewing area for boosters and football alumni that includes a 1,600 SF deck and terrace space for outdoor viewing of games.

A large entry foyer proudly displays many of EKU Football memorabilia, trophies and banners. Centered in the entry foyer, an open stair offers direct access to the Worn Cleat Room above and an unobstructed line of site for the boosters and football alumni as the players exit the locker room for a football game.

To reduce heat gain, the glass used in the facility will be low-emissive and fritted, sun shades are incorporated, and a white “cool roof” is used. A geothermal HVAC system may be employed to further reduce energy costs and demand.
