Having recently purchased an existing, off-campus building, the University of Kentucky selected Omni Architects to renovate the rear portion of the structure that had been originally designed as warehouse space and indoor loading dock.
The University’s space program stated the need for a cutting edge training facility to be occupied by Integrated Resource Information Systems (IRIS), a division of the Information Technology department. The former step-down loading dock afforded the opportunity to create two levels with a mezzanine and provide much needed additional floor area for offices and workspace. The bulk of the former warehouse space was transformed into a large training area and seminar spaces with integral audio/visual equipment. A raised floor system was included to accommodate continued flexibility of equipment and furnishings.
