The new Public Safety Operations Center will be located at Coldstream Research Park in Lexington. The building contains both single and two story elements located on either side of a central atrium plus a partial basement for mechanical equipment. The building is hardened to withstand an F-4 tornado force and have a UL level 4 ballistic rating. The exterior walls are 8 inch pre-cast concrete and the windows meet FEMA 361 standards for ballistics.
The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) occupies the single story potion of one side of the central atrium and includes ancillary rooms for a Policy Room, the Joint Information Center (JIC), a Press Room, a State Room, a Federal Room, and break-out rooms. The two story portion of the building on the opposite side of the atrium contains the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) for fire and police, training rooms, and the offices for E 9-1-1. LexCall 311, the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), the data center, staff lockers and a break room occupy the first floor area.
The building is designed to be LEED® Silver as certified by the U. S. Green Building Council.
